Cherry Packing Shed Tours
On July 14-15, 2011, Dr. Eva Almenar with the Michigan State University School of Packaging toured three cherry packing sheds in the state of Washington. As part of our SCRI research project, she is developing new cherry packaging systems that have the potential to prolong shelf life. This tour gave her a better understanding of the packaging process, existing packaging systems, and a chance for industry to convey packaging needs to her.
In-field Cooling Tests
In July of 2011, Picker Technologies conducted in-field cooling tests. They have subcontracted with the company NanoIce to conduct tests to tell us more about how quickly cherries can be cooled immediately following harvest, and how that can affect fruit quality.
